Gardener’s Cottage is situated on the edge of Mappleton near the River Dove, a village about 2 miles from the Derbyshire market town of Ashbourne.

Mappleton is a small, meandering, peaceful village of 52 houses, a pub, a post office and a church - noted for its unusual domed roof.

The Peak District National Park starts 1/2 mile to the north of Mappleton; the country lane running past the cottage soon rises to the spectacularly beautiful limestone landscape of the White Peak.

Mappleton is ideally suited for walkers with good walking from your front door; Whether it is a pleasant 2 1/2 mile walk along the River Dove to Dovedale or Ilam country park or further afield to the splendor of the Manifold valley and Thor's Cave.

If 2 wheels are more top your liking, the start of the Tissington Trail is only a mile away where you can hire bicycles (or bring your own). The nearest town is Ashbourne (a beautiful town with excellent shopping). Mappleton is ideally situated as a base for travel around the area. Such attractions as Alton Towers, Carsington Water are within ten miles, while Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and The Roaches are all within twenty.

Gardener's Cottage is a 19th Century, red-brick semi-detached cottage and retains many of its original features.

It has an attractive garden, fully screened from the quiet country lane, is south-facing, and has a single off-road parking space.

The accommodation is fully self-contained, with two comfortable bedrooms [one double, one twin], good-sized living room, dining room, kitchen, pantry, and upstairs bathroom with shower, bath and WC.

Décor is white or pastel throughout.

The bedrooms are south-facing, as are the main rooms below, and have an attractive outlook over the garden, with views of cottages and the village beyond.

Sheets, pillowcases and towels can be provided ( £12 per person), otherwise please bring your own.

The main downstairs rooms have sturdy beams and there is a wood-burning stove in the living room. Other heating is by electric storage heaters. The beautiful original doorways are rather low, and it’s only fair to mention that the kitchen has minimum headroom of 5’9’’ under beams and 6’1” between. Cosy, but not too good for very tall people!

The kitchen is straightforward rather than luxury, but has a microwave and refrigerator; as well as a conventional electric cooker.

All cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are included.

If you do not feel like cooking - it is but a 2 minute stroll to the village pub - The Okeover Arms - recently under new management. As well as their wines and draft beer, Sid and Jean keep an excellent table.

Depending on occupancy and season the fully inclusive rate for Gardener’s Cottage is from 280 to 420 UK pounds per week, with shorter periods by negotiation.

We kindly ask that guests do not smoke indoors and we also regret that we are unable to accommodate pets.
